Exams and culminating activity

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Good morning, families of students in either FSF1P1 or FSF1D1 with Mr. Gelder. A few information items regarding final exams and culminating activities.

Final exams take place from Thursday, January 26th until Tuesday, January 31.Unless otherwise indicated, exams take place at 8:30 until 10:00 in the regular classroom:

Thursday, January 26th: Period one class

Friday, January 27th: Period two class (FSF1P1 for students in that class, room 1037)

Monday, January 30th: Period three class

Tuesday, January 31st, Period four class (FSF1D1 for students in that class, room 1015)

Once finished, students are free (and indeed encouraged) to return home to prepare for subsequent exams. A snow day over the course of exams will result in all ensuing exams being pushed back a day, ending on Wednesday, February 1st. As it stands, February 1st and Thursday, February 2nd are Professional Development days; students stay home. Semester two begins on Friday, February 3rd.

Although many students are entitled to write their exams in a "resource room" it is my strong recommendation that students stay in the regular classroom, where they will be receive any and all supports indicated on their respective IEPs, including any extra time required to finish the exam. Exams in the Languages department are generally open-book (and device) and in the case of Mr. Gelder's class will involved a reading they will receive well in advance.

As for culminating activities, there will be a hybrid written/oral assignment students will be completing with the aid of their iPads. They will have all of the week of January 16 - 20th to complete this assignment in class (and likely some time the following week). The culminating activity makes up 15% of the final mark, as does the final exam.

As always, should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Mr. Gelder via the information provided in the right-hand panel of this blog.
