Holocaust Education Week (November 4 - 8) films
Next week marks Holocaust Education Week across Ontario. In our classes, we use this opportunity to view two excellent French films: La Rafle (The Roundup) in our grade ten class and Au revoir les enfants (Goodbye, children) in the grade nine.
Both films deal with a very intense subject, the Holocaust, but are very age appropriate. My personal philosophy of showing films in a French class is that films must be originally in the French language, whether from France, Quebec or elsewhere in the Francophonie. Students may not otherwise be exposed to French cinema than in an FSL class. There will always be English subtitles when viewing such films.
Students will NOT ever be subjected to Disney/Pixar movies dubbed in French.
